I am a graduate student in the Ocean Sciences Department of the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am advised by Dr. John Carlos Garza at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Santa Cruz. My research focuses on life-history and migration variations of Pacific salmonids.
I am originally from South Dakota and completed my Bachelor of Science at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in Ecology and Genetics. I studied abroad at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, which sparked my interests in marine ecosystems. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, I was a Junior Scientist and Lab Manager of an ecophysiology lab. I then worked in Alaska, Washington and California as a Fisheries Biological Science Technician for the US Forest Service. While working in the forests I became interested in salmon and their important ecological and cultural roles.
