in the MainStage building feeds 100 Mb/s fiber to the
Experimental Theater (7923) hub303. Working fiber to the
Expt Theater is 62 micron multimode. Four station cables installed
with the building construction in 1996 are Category 5 wire. They
connect the closet and the Theater control booth and perhaps
points beyond. The entire building is served through two
conduits from the cable closet. We have pictures from both ends:

The location of the closet and the control room are shown on
the plan:

The WTC report contemplates replacing the local switch with
an 8 port 10/100 Cisco unit. It expects to recable the
facility and to add two WAPs. The report projects a
project cost of $7000 closet remodel + 2880 rewire + 1641 switch
+ 2940 wireless. Total = $14,461.

It appears that the connector plates on the side walls
have conduits back to the theater booth. See:

http://people.ucsc.edu/~warner/jim2/Exp-Thtr-data-plate-1.jpg

These plates have some audio cables, but probably some empty
conduits, too.

NextG installed a 24 strand singlemode cable between the
mainstage bldg and the experimental theater. Three strands
are in use. The SM fiber is spliced through to the roof in
the Expt-Theater closet. See:

http://people.ucsc.edu/~warner/jim2/exp-thtr-closet-wall.jpg

The Expt-Theater closet has an exterior door on a mechanical
master key. ITS does not have keys to the theater itself.

Proposed:

1. Replace hub303 with Gig-E switch.

2. Provide Gig-E feed to Experimental Theater (7923). Least expensive
may be to use SM from Music and the gig-E over MM to experimental
theater, converted with a switch.

3. Install new equipment rack in the closet.

4. Replace all existing cables with category 6 cable terminated
in the rack. Conduits appear to exist to all locations on the
proposed plan. If cables are not pulled for wi-fi at the same time,
it may be necessary to repull all the wire when it is added.

Side walls to the theater form rated exit corridors and should not
be penetrated.
