Our students in CE-158 are doing Wi-Fi surveys of three campus buildings
as their class projects. The process uses a program that sniffs wi-fi
performance out of the air and records it on a building floor plan.
While the program is willing to extrapolate beyond reason, we will
get the best data with broad access to your facilities. This means
that e.g. to survey in unoccupied offices they will need an escort
with keys. Our students will make arrangements directly with the
building contacts and this note serves as the introduction.
|
For ITS, we are evaluating the measurement tool as a candidate for
adoption for indoor surveys. What building owners will get is a
quantitative survey of Wi-Fi coverage along with the student
report.
|
The survey program only listens to beacon packets from the cruznet
access points. No user data is monitored.
