The Super Blue Blood Moon

The Trifecta of Moons

The super blue blood moon was visible in California on January 31, 2018.

How does this moon warrant such a name?
  1. It's a "blue" moon because this is the second full moon that appeared in the month of January.
  2. A "super" moon because of the close proximity of the moon's orbit.
  3. And a "blood" moon because the Earth passed between the moon and the sun, giving the moon a red tint.
