Probability and Statistics for Engineers
Lab Assignments General Instructions
Lab assignments will consist of computer simulations of probability models, as described
in the project statements below. The goal of each project will be to determine some
quantity of interest, such as the probability of some event(s), the mean or variance of
a random variable, or the steady state of a random process. You may use any programming
language you are familiar with. If you have no programming experience, you may resort to
using a physical device, like a coin or die, to obtain random outcomes. You may also use
the site Random.org to produce random sequences of
numbers or characters. Each project requires that you submit a pdf file containing your
report of experimentally calculated probabilities. Some example simulations in python are
provided in the examples link below.
You will submit your report files through
Gradescope.
To submit a Lab, go to Assignments, find the link for a particular assignment and upload your file. All submissions must be pdf or plain text files. If you have any technical problems with lab submission, or you wish to appeal a lab grade, contact Teaching Assistant
Hardika Gawde (hgawde@ucsc.edu).
