Guidance on Requesting Recommendation Letters

Request a Recommendation Letter

If you'd like me to write you a recommendation letter, please check first these items to see if you qualify:

Undergraduates - Recomendation for graduate school or internships

Just recieving an A in my courses is not enough for a recommendation letter. These letters are a chance for recommenders to speak about something beyond information from your transcript/cv.

Graduates and Postdocs - Recomendation for postdoc or teaching positions

If you qualify and have your files ready, please allow me at least one month before the deadline. Preparing a quality recommendation letter takes time.

How to Request a Recommendation Letter

Please follow these steps to make me a request for a recommendation letter:

  1. Send me an email with the subject line "Recomendation" to pmorale5@ucsc.edu.
  2. Please include the details of the program(s) that you are planning to apply.
  3. Provide relevant information: Share your files and details about the opportunity you are applying for. Highlight specific skills or experiences relevant for the program.
  4. Set clear deadlines: Let me know when the letter is due and how it should be submitted.

Following Up

After your initial request, follow up politely to ensure everything is on track:
