Request a Recommendation Letter
If you'd like me to write you a recommendation letter, please check first these items to see if you qualify:
Undergraduates - Recomendation for graduate school or internships
- Participated in a research experience with me.
- Had taken an upper division course with me.
- Had attended office hours regularly during at least one quarter.
- Had taken a course with me in the last 2 years.
Just recieving an A in my courses is not enough for a recommendation letter. These letters are a chance for recommenders to speak about something beyond information from your transcript/cv.
Graduates and Postdocs - Recomendation for postdoc or teaching positions
- I need to observe your section/class.
- Share with me your teaching portfolio (teaching statement, assignments, syllabi, etc.)
If you qualify and have your files ready, please allow me at least one month before the deadline. Preparing a quality recommendation letter takes time.
- For graduate school applications: Start asking in late summer or early fall.
- For job or internship applications: Ask as soon as you know you will need a letter.
- For scholarships or awards: Notify me as soon as you plan to apply.
