Notes From Carrie’s Lecture October 27th, 2005

5 ways to approach learning about your students and setting an environment where they are learning about each other:

1.) Give students every opportunity to answer their own questions.
2.) Put students in charge of teaching-they are all experts in one way or another-find their area of expertise and put them in charge.
3.) Put yourself in their context (even if it is uncomfortable or new to you).
4.) Maximize your students’ amount of doing and minimize ‘teacher talk’.
5.) Create opportunities to unexpectedly hear your students’ voices.
