Topics include February and October revolutions, Civil War, NEP, rise of Stalinism, and collectivization.
Prerequisite(s): two upper-division history courses; satisfaction of the Subject A and Composition requirements.

196A. Hitler and Stalin. A discussion of twentieth-century totalitarianism.
Prerequisite(s): two upper-division history courses, preferably in area of concentration; satisfaction of the Subject A and Composition requirements.
