Culminating talk for the directed reading program at UCSC. Defines projective varieties and constructs the Grassmannian via Plücker coordinates and the associated relations. Results on dimension are applied to count the number of lines on a surface of degree m. Strongly follows exposition in Shafarevich's Basic Algebraic Geometry.Flyer
