Welcome to team U.S.E.D.'s Project: Pattern!
If you don't know what Pattern is, you've come to the right place. I hope this site will answer all you know, and if not, contact us @ firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll try our best to answer. :D
Pattern is from the mind of April Grow in hopes to create a light puzzle game based on the priciples of crochet. Pattern aims to guide the player through a specific craft in order to educate the player about crochet and to foster creativity.
Pattern is a PC game that utilizes a USB XBox 360 controller. The purpose of using the controller versus mouse and keyboard as primary control schemes is due to allowing a more realistic feel of crocheting. As for making it as a PC game, we felt that it would allow the ability to generate a community more assessible.
The world has gone through a terrible event and objects from the world have gone missing. The Beautiful Benebolent Queen (BBQ) approaches our main character, the Omnipotent Magical Yarn Guru of Awesome (OMYGA), pleading for OMYGA's assistance in restoring the world's lost objects. With the help of OMYGA's animal companion (mascot), OMYGA takes the BBQ's magical yarn and crochets items requested from citizens of the world.
Pattern's main goals are to educate people about crochet, to create a tool to help make crochet patterns, and to help build friendly crochet communites.
To do this, the story mode introduces terms widely used in the crochet community, display hook and yarn interactions for a proper execution of basic movements, and have the movements on the controller mimic the movements done in actual crochet.
Making crochet patterns will be achieved by utilizing an in game tracking system that saves the moves the player inputs and compares them with a list of valid movements for stitches. The game can then print a list of instructions either telling the reader to use a common stitch or detailing the custom stitch the player made. However because story mode is meant for teaching the player crochet, custom stitch will only be avaliable during free mode.
With being able to keep track of all the actions the player has made, it allows our game to export and share pattern files. This will allow people to share projects with friends, collaborators, and get projects from others to play and learn from. The ability to print patterns also allow people to have a hard copy of instructions to that can be translated to real directions to make the actual object.
Turn virtual crochet to reality.
