If you have had problems logging onto SmartWorks, the following information may be relevant: "The way the registration process for SmartWork works is a two step process. When students initially sign in they are asked for the enrollment key. For your course, this is "STIGLITZWALSH4" that you provided. After two weeks, if the student has not done so by clicking the 'fully enroll' link in the upper right corner, the system will ask for the registration code from the text book. This grace period is allowed to accommodate the add/drop period of most courses. So, I believe this is what the students are encountering. I logged into your course and saw that a hand full of your students had fully registered and most had not. What the system is asking for is the registration key from the students' text not the enrollment key."
