This was the CSUN Surf Club constitution as submitted and approved by CSUN Associated Students. It was modeled after some of the other club constitutions on campus. As a coach or advisor it is your responsibility to be sure that these rules are read and followed. Some of them, including the non-descrimination article/section, are taken very seriously.


CSUN SURF CLUB CONSTITUTION

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTHRIDGE


Article I Name

The name of this organization shall be the CSUN Surf Club.

Article II Purpose

Our philosophy is to encourage CSUN students to participate in the social, recreational and competitive environment that the sport of surfing creates. Our goal is to create an economical and socially beneficial entity for the surfers of CSUN.

Article III Membership

Section 1. Eligibility

a. Membership will be open to all CSUN students who show an active interest in the surf club.

b. Honorary membership will be granted to those alumni or other persons who show an active interest in the CSUN Surf Club at the discretion of the regular members of the surf club.

Section 2. Classification: In the event that a competitive team is established, members will be classified as "Team Members" or "Club Members".

Section 3. Privileges

a. To compete in all contests throughout the membership;

b. To be included in surfaris, club sponsorships, discounts, and other social events;

c. To vote in club functions;

d. To become an elected official, if a CSUN student in good standing;

e. To attend meetings, speak, and present motions.

Section 4. This organization does not and will not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex, handicap, or national origin.

Article IV Officers and Advisors

Section 1. This organization will have a faculty advisor whose term as such will be indefinite. That person will remain as advisor until the date he/she resigns.

Section 2. The officers will consist of: President, VicePresident, Secretary, Treasurer, and Club Historian. All officers must be CSUN students in good standing.

Section 3. Officer's duties will consist of the following:

a. The President

1. Shall preside at all meetings of the Surf Club.

2. Shall represent the club wherever such representation may be required.

3. Shall appoint committee chairmen to fill vacancies.

4. Shall call special meetings of the club as a whole.

5. Shall disperse funds jointly with the Treasurer.

b. The VicePresident

1. Shall represent this club in the InterOrganizational Council.

2. Shall perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President.

3. Shall be an exofficio member of all committees.

c. The Secretary

1. Shall maintain accurate minutes of the meetings of the club.

2. Shall handle all correspondence and notification.

d. The Treasurer

1. Shall receive and disburse all funds jointly with the President.

2. Shall keep accurate records of receipts and disbursements.

e. The Club Historian

1. Shall document and maintain a historical record of significant club activities and events.

2. Shall serve as club photographer and maintain a photographic journal.

Section 4. The term of office, will be for six months (August 1-January 31, and February 1-July 31), with a maximum of two years.

Section 5. Elections

a. Elections shall be held on the first general meeting of the semester for the selection of officers for the incoming term of office.

b. A majority vote of the members present at the announced election meeting is required for election.

c. Candidates will be nominated by another club member. Candidates may volunteer if no nominations are forthcoming.

d. Balloting method will be determined at the meeting in which the election is held.

Article V Meetings

Section 1. There will be a minimum of two meetings per semester. One within the first three weeks of the semester and one within the last three weeks of the semester.

Section 2. Special meetings may be called by the President, or at the request of two-thirds (2/3) of the regular membership.

Section 3. A quorum will exist when there is a majority of the membership present at a meeting.

Article VI Finances

Section 1. The club will operate on a fiscal year ending on May 31 of each year.

Section 2. The cost of membership (dues) will be decided by the incoming officers prior to the first meeting of each semester.

Section 3. An effort to attain Associated Student funding will be made on an annual basis, or as special circumstances require.

Article VII Committees

Special committees shall be formed for the purpose of administration, for fund raisers, and/or other club functions on a volunteer basis with the approval of the President or by appointment of the President.

Article VIII Amendments

Section 1. This constitution may be amended at any time during a meeting where at least two-thirds (2/3) of all members are present and there is a majority vote of those members present.

Section 2. An amendment must be construed to all members of the organization before said meeting is held.

Article IX Ratification and Enactment

Amendments to this constitution will be ratified by the parameters set forth in Article VIII. Enactment of ratified amendments are subject to the approval of the Associated Students of CSUN.
