A Netherton Family Portrait

Mr. Netherton, Hazel Netherton Leask, Mrs. Glassford Shepard, Mrs. Netherton.

This photo is provided by the Leask family, taken when Mrs. Shepard was visiting.

There were roses growing next to the house and along the path. We still grow lots of roses back there, they do well. We took the path out in 1999 when we fenced in our entire property. At this time, the path probably led to a gate, and then to the river bank beyond.

The porch was enclosed sometime during the "duplex" period of the 1950s. The back steps which run parallel to the wall in this picture, were later rebuilt so that they now come straight back out from the back door, which is just behind Hazel's head. The basement door is directly behind Mrs. Netherton. Above the basement door is the utility room where Mrs. Netherton had her fireless cooker.

In this photo one can see a corner of the house that was once next door, the house that burned in the 60s when the Gugats and LeFevres owned both houses and the Hidden Court. One can also see the gable of the house that was across the street, 99 Riverside.
