To
her grandchildren, she was "Mudder." She cooked them berry pies
and used the high technology of a "fireless cooker" on the porch
behind the kitchen. They remember her as elegant and always well dressed.
A devoted mother: "Which bedroom was your mother's?" I asked
Hazel's daughter. "They probably gave the big one to her," was
the reply.

width of the
house, before half of it was enclosed to add a kitchen
in the 1950s.
