About Me

My life outside of linguistics.

Biography

I was born in Gainesville, Florida and lived there for about six months. My family moved then to Naperville, Illinois (where my brother, Raymond, was born), and then to Hamilton, Ohio for a spell. Finally, my family settled in Marshall, Wisconsin, where I finished school. I still occasionally spend summers there, though most of the time when I'm not in school I can be found in Madison.

Marching

When I'm not doing linguistics, I'm generally to be found somewhere in the vicinity of good marching bands. When I was in middle and high school, I marched and taught marching in the Madison, Wisconsin area. For three summers I marched with Drum Corps International drum and bugle corps, both Capital Sound and The Madison Scouts. After high school, I marched and taught with the Cornell University Big Red Bands. My last year as an undergraduate, I served as the student director and Drum Major of the Cornell University Marching Band.

I'm always interested in teaching marching band, and if you're reading this and need extra visual staff, please contact me - a marching instruction resumé is available upon request.
