Setting up your Yahoo! Instant Messenger Account

 

 

1.     Download the Product:

a.     Make sure you have a Yahoo! Account. If not go to Yahoo! and sign-up.

b.     Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/

c.     Click the download button to get Yahoo! Instant Messenger. It will detect if you’re using a PC or MAC.

d.     Launch the setup program by double clicking on the downloaded file.

e.     Follow the easy installation prompts.

2.     How to Weed Out the Entire World:

a.     Once you go through the basic setup, click on the “Messenger” tab in the file menu on top of your Yahoo! Instant Messenger window.

b.     Select the “Preferences” option.

                                      i.     Make sure you are set as “Available” under the “My Availability” tab when you want to chat.

                                    ii.     Scroll Down to “Ignore List” option.

1.     Click the “Ignore anyone who is not on my Messenger List” option if you don’t want old creepy friends to see your e-mail and chat you up!

c.     Now, return to the Yahoo! Messenger window and hit the plus sign at the bottom to add contacts. Use the list of participants we provided and add the names and Yahoo! e-mail addresses for the people listed.

3.     Anyone can start a Conference:

a.     If you want to talk about 105A stuff with a group of classmates, click on the “Actions” option on the file menu at the top of the main Yahoo! Messenger window.

b.     Select the “Invite to Conference” option. The classmates you added into your contact list will appear in the “Messenger List”. Highlight all the contacts from class and click the “Add” button.

c.     All you need to do from there is hit “Invite” and we’ll all be talking about Real Analysis in our PJs.
