Biography

Doris Ash is an Associate Professor at the University of California Santa Cruz in the Education Department. Her research in informal learning focuses on closely analyzing dialogic interactions at life science exhibits, emphasizing the mediation of thematic biological content.

Research Philosophy

The Ash Research Lab is committed to understanding how families learn science in dialogue and interaction with each other. We explore the contribution of out-of-school environments to science education for a public of diverse learners and develop theoretically-grounded tools to study scientific meaning making over time.
