This class is for beginners who would like to learn to paint with oils or acrylics, and for those with painting experience.

Brenda paces the class to fit the individual concerns of each student, so development naturally occurs in an enjoyable learning environment.  Attention is given to observational studies, form, light and shadow, as well as color theory, composition, painting materials, historical art movements and selected artworks. Beginning painters are given a structured curriculum, while Intermediate and Advanced students will chose individual direction and projects. The course will also include working from a live model (nude and clothed), critiques, and a museum field trip (TBA). Each artist is encouraged to find his or her own visual voice and to develop an individual approach to image making.

A class for adventuresome kids who like to experiment with ghoulishly fun materials, textures and art-making approaches. Mixing traditional art media with found objects, students will create a zany clock that really works, spooky wind chimes, ghoulish assemblages and kooky collages. Each week a specific art movement and artist will also be introduced.

An exploraion of functional and non-functional art making practices that will include humanoid clockswith personality, spooky wind chimes, ghoulish masks and kooky collages. Each week a specific art movement and artist will also be introduced.

Explore amazing clay-animation from concept to finished product—from storyboarding, drawn and clay character design, animated movement, timing, sound, titles & credits. Students will have an opportunity to work on individual movie shorts or on a collaborative group movie.

Brenda Berg’s award winning oils show in galleries and collections throughout the United States. In addition to teaching painting and clay animation at the SCMAC, Berg has taught painting for the Santa Cruz County Schools GATE Program, and studio art for the University of California at Santa Cruz since 1993. A nominee for the 2006-07 Rydell Fellowship, Berg graduated Magna cum Laude from San Jose State University’s Art and Design Department, and did her postgraduate work in Studio Art at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
