Last week I had this dream where Alta Vista enhanced their web-crawler such that it recognized pages that were sad, abandoned, neglected little orphaned smudges on the internet, and to those pages it added a tastefully done cobweb overlay. Being that this sad wreck of a page has been a lonely derelict for going on three years now, how can I not do a little face-lift on it?
It is, of course, an on the job page, so it still has to address my existence here at the beautiful University of California at Santa Cruz* in terms of the computer stuff that I do. In case you're thinking "Yawn", ditto that! But if bits and bytes and the jostling, crunching, and hammering of such melts your butter, then by all means click away madly at the spiffy red apple to find out a smattering about me (your humble narrator) in my on the job capacity as an applications programmer/analyst. And in case that sounds BORING, click on the very clickable photo of Emily to the right. (She was the best cat in the world.) And of course there's always Metrognome.
Or, knock yourself out and go visit richapple.com for more fun than you can shake a stick at.
But hey, look at these photos from Big Sur below. I just happen to have them handy; they're from May 1999, and what better way to spruce up a web page?

* This is such a sad thing that I can only add it as a footnote. We programmers have been kicked off campus and stuck into interior, mostly windowless cubicles in the old Wrigley Building. So I say "the beautiful University of California at Santa Cruz", but I can only hope that some time in the future I can weasle my way back up there. Sigh...
Okay, footnote to the footnote: That was April of 1999 that we moved down to the gum factory, and yes, we're still there, and no, it's not as nice as working on campus. And while we've been away, they've been carving the campus up somewhat furiously to grow grow grow, chop chop chop, and pave pave pave. In my humble opinion, it's a sad thing.
