My work focuses on quantitative modeling, information processing and decision making in relation to systems with many degrees of freedom, including multi-agent and multi-robot systems, redundant mechanical systems, and biological cell populations. This multidisciplinary research is primarily focused on probabilistic models, stochastic dynamics and control with the aim of discovering fundamental regulatory principles upon which natural systems are built and using these principles in creating better robotic systems. Besides ever-increasing digital computational power, the main challenges in pursuing this goal are in nonlinearities, multi-degrees of freedom and uncertainties. Therefore, I concentrate on the use of stochastic processes to compute control. This work is applicable to biomedical research, next generation of air transportation system (NextGen) and environmental monitoring.
Research interest: Stochastic dynamical systems and statistical signal processing, multi-agent systems/robotics, systems biology/immune system, optimal control, hybrid and discrete event systems
