A meeting of two great campuses, the University of California at Santa Cruz and San Jose State University, in the "Highway 17 Express: Multiple Runs" exhibition, opening at Works Gallery in San Jose on October 2nd promises to be the beginning of something big. During the past several decades Bay Area university art departments have celebrated the genius of several mainstream artists including printmakers Patrick Surgalski, Erin Goodwin-Guerrero, Paul Rangell, Kay Metz, and Richard Wohlfeiler.

Works Gallery continues that celebration with a landmark printmaking exhibition between two major Bay Area university campuses linked by the Highway 17 Express bus route. The exhibition skillfully melds the work of established faculty and alumni with the talent of emerging students. In addition to linking two campuses, the "Highway 17 Express" exhibitionoffers key speakers who will discuss historical printmaking techniques, postmodern "anything goes" trends, and the future of digital printmaking and cyberspace.

In addition to the exhibition, the following esteemed presenters will speak about printmaking practices and artists books. This lecture will be hosted by San Jose State University Tuesday, October 14, 5:00-7:00 PM in Room 133, Art Building.

Erin Goodwin-Guerrero, San Jose State University Art and Design Department
Paul Rangell, Master Printer University of California, Santa Cruz, Visual Arts Department

Patrick Surgalski, Professor San Jose State University, Art and Design Department
